Arriving at university is an exciting experience, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. To make sure you're as prepared as you can be before and after arriving, here are some tips to keep in mind so you don't feel unprepared!
Confirm your room inventory 📝
Checking and confirming your room inventory protects you from any unfair charges for pre-existing damage or missing items when you move out. You will receive an email from 'Inventory HIVE' 5 days prior to starting your accommodation contract. It's important to note that you only have 24 hours to complete the form once you arrive. You can always speak to the accommodation team or contact your halls manager if you have any questions.
Register with a GP 🏥
Our medical centre is based within the University Hub building and has doctors and nurses to support with any ongoing medical issues. To register with the Medical Centre, you must complete the online form. It should only take about 10 minutes to complete and around 2 working days to confirm. You'll also need access to your NHS number (if you've had a GP in England before), which you can find on NHS letters, prescriptions and on the NHS app.
Follow us on Instagram 📱
Remember to follow us on Instagram to get instant alerts about what's happening around campus, learn about clubs, career fairs, workshops and free food on campus, as well as community-building opportunities where you can find student support networks. It's also a good way of finding resources throughout the university, such as links to mental health services, library updates, study tips and academic deadlines!
Sign up for an event ☕️
Signing up for events after arriving means you can:
- Build friendships: Sign up with your flatmates and meet new people together.
- Explore the campus: Welcome week and events can help you find key spots around campus, like the library, student hubs and local transport routes.
- Access support: Eventrs introduce you to welfare teams and advice services early so you know where to go if you need help, especially if you're struggling with homesickness.
They not only help you make friends, but they also help you settle into campus life and access essential student support straight after arriving on campus.
We hope that you enjoy Welcome Week and have a great experience moving into your halls! For more information and helpful accommodation tips, check out our ResLife page!
